Long before A-Class Catamarans, Formula 18s and many of today’s high-performance classes dominated the beach catamaran scene, there was one boat that stood above the rest.

A boat that earned a reputation throughout the 1980s and 1990s as one of the most exciting single-handed catamarans ever built.
Fast, powerful and demanding respect, the 18SQ became the dream boat for sailors wanting maximum performance without needing a crew.
For more than 30 years the 18SQ was no longer in production.
Then a long-time NCA sailor approached us with a simple question:
“Can we build one again?”
The answer was yes.
Redevelopment Program
Following the success of the prototype program, NCA Catamarans has decided to move forward with the redevelopment of the iconic 18SQ.
The prototype provided valuable insights into the design and performance of the boat while confirming what many sailors already knew — the 18SQ remains an exciting, high-performance catamaran with enormous potential.
Extensive testing over the past two years has demonstrated that the original concept still has enormous potential when combined with modern materials, contemporary sail design and current manufacturing techniques.
The redevelopment program has focused on retaining the character and performance that made the 18SQ famous while incorporating a range of 21st-century improvements designed to enhance speed, handling, reliability and ease of sailing.
The result is a modern interpretation of an Australian sailing icon — a boat that remains true to its heritage while delivering the performance expected by today’s sailors.
